Monoblock Cleaning & Sealing
A Quality Finish Every Time

Driveway Cleaning Edinburgh

Over the years without proper maintenance Block Paving will gradually deteriorate. The general appearance of the driveway becomes untidy and the longer it is left the worse the problem becomes. Cotec Protective Coatings have been rejuvenating block paving driveways for many years returning them to that new look appearance.  Cotec’s driveway cleaning equipment is all commercial quality ensuring the best level of cleaning possible. If the driveway is contaminated with oil this requires to be treated prior to cleaning.  The driveway cleaning is by rotary machine or a turbo lance which removes the contamination and some of the surface sand to a depth of about one inch.  The block is then rinsed after driveway cleaning to remove any residual sand followed by a application of biocide the driveway is now left to dry.  Once the driveway is dry which normally takes a minimum of one to two days dependent on the temperature it is brushed with KILN Dried sand.  The final optional step of driveway rejuvenation is the application of two coats of Premium Block Paving Sealer available in Matt Silk or Gloss. Benifits: Reduces sand loss from joints Reduces efflorescence Ultra-violet light and weather resistant Inhibits the growth of moss and weeds Enhances the colour of the paving Facilitates the easy removal of oil

Kiln dried sand Is very dry fine sand that contains no moisture. The sand is used to fill the joints of block paving.   After cleaning the joints are filled with kiln dried sand which helps to stop the paving from moving and becoming loose. The Scottish climate is wet thus the ground water content can be high.   It is the ground water content that affects this sand if the ground is wet the sand will absorbs the moisture and the sealer will not take. We can use Block Fill which is a moisture curing grout which will not wash out and inhibits weed growth but eliminates the moisture problem.

De-icing salts should not be applied directly on sealed block paving or concrete sealers. Salt chemically reduces the temperature at which water freezes and will result in water ingress into the pavers. Subsequent freezing may result in the paving 'sealer' being broken by the expansion of water as it freezes, and white 'pitted' areas may become visible.  There are many different eco-friendly products with Resiblock pro de-ice just one.
The Cleaning & Sealing of imprinted concrete driveways protects the concrete by providing a protective wear coat. Sealing your driveway will prevent contaminates such as oil or petrol and minimise the growth of algae and moss. If you have pattern imprinted concrete, you should always ensure that the driveway is sealed every 3-4 years to keep it looking at its best.

Step 1: The drive is pressure cleaned using a rotary unit or turbo unit to remove dirt moss or algae.  Step 2: A blend of repair fluid and clear sealer is applied in coat 1. A coat of clear sealer follows this. It is unusual that an additional coat of sealer will be require but will be applied if the desired effect is not reached. Over the years pattern imprinted concrete will fade losing colour and lustre and will also gather dirt from everyday use.  Thus, it does require continual maintenance to keep the drive looking pristine.  A top up coat of sealer every 3 to 4 years will keep the drive looking good. However, with our busy lives we may have overlooked the drive and don’t really notice until it is to late.  This then becomes a restoration task to bring the drive back to that new look again. We can re-colour repair and reseal your pattern imprinted concrete which will rejuvenate your drive.

Pattern imprinted Concrete the restoration process.

Step 1: The drive is pressure cleaned using a rotary unit or turbo unit to remove dirt moss or algae.  If the drive is oil stained, we can treat this area to remove the oil prior to cleaning. Step 2:  Pattern Imprinted Concrete often develops cracks chips which can be repaired however these blemishes might not always be invisible but will still be a vast improvement. Step 3:  We apply a blend of repair fluid-sealer and colour restorer in coat 1 this is followed by several coats of sealer and colour restorer to the desired effect is reached.   A final coat of clear sealer is applied to finish the process.  if required expansion gaps can be filled with silicone.
The most common mistake most people make is using salt based ice melt to remove the ice. While this seems completely harmless at first, once the ice is gone you’ll notice blotches on the concrete that look very similar to hard water stains. These apparent stains come from the chemicals in the ice melt reacting with the dyes used to colour the surface.
